The climate in Southern Louisiana is more of a mild one. During the summer it is mostly hot and humid. It is hotter and more humid in Louisiana largely due to the fact that it is on the coastline and it’s located closer to the equator. I have found this expression to be true; “If you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes and it will change.” This can be said during any of the seasons, whether it’s raining, or just cold. In Louisiana, hurricane season starts in June and ends in November spanning two different seasons. In New York, snow storms are only a threat during the winter months. Hurricanes are a major threat because of the close proximity to the water. While hurricanes bring with them the possibility of damage to your house from flooding or from the winds tearing it apart, snowstorms also can be dangerous. The pile-up of snow on power lines can cause them to snap. Also the pileup of snow on the roads causes problems. Before the utility companies can work on restoring power to you, the roads have to be cleared. The snow needs to be removed from the roadways so that the power trucks can get through. There is also the danger of the power lines being down. The power company will cut the power to surrounding areas just to be safe. Like flooding, snow pile ups can make navigating a challenge making walking impossible. Major snow storms are just called nor’easters. They do not have names like hurricanes.
