Introduction: comparing the Milgram and Zimbardo Experiments
The life in prison than life of freedom. What is better the Zimbardo experiment or Milgram experiment. Between Zimbardo and Milgram both experiments are considered as the same. The Milgram and Zimbardo are classified in using participants in studying their role of being overly empowered by someone with authority. Zimbardo experiments considered the role of controlling a civilization (prison life). The measurement of wrong answers will hike up to the highest level of 450 volts. The experiments, were causing his participant’s extreme distress, which was directed by Milgram himself. Milgram conducted his experiment to use participants to improve immoral situation. Milgram wanted these individuals to obey his authority of some measures tested on their performance and willingness. Milgram’s ethical issues were all lies.
Baumrind vs. Milgram’s experiments:
In (1964) “Baumrind claimed that Milgram invented an unacceptable level of stress towards his participants”. Baumrind was against Milgram’s experiments. She stated that everything was false and that his studies were unethical. She stated that the rules of behavior towards the subject be more prone on behavior than other environmental conditions. Although it reveals that Milgram’s participants felt that they were being used and embarrassed. Baumrind proved that it will never be the same in their lives.83.7% of Milgram’s participants was glad to participate, but 1.3% regretted to participate. Zimbardo’s experiment shows how real life prisoners and guards are being overpowered by their morals. and judgements. Here is an example of my life in jail. I got arrested for domestic violence against my Ex-husband in 1989. I went to Santa Rita Jail for 3 months. I was a real life prisoner, and there were real-life guards who locked me up in the cell. To me Santa Rita Jail was a rehabilitation center to learn how to “control your attitude.”
There is another example of Zimbardo experiments related to the “Abu Ghraib abuse”.
The aftermath of 2003 Iraq war. The rights of a human in the “Abu Ghraib Prison”. Studies shown that in Abu Ghraib there were so much abused going on under the authority of American armed forces. This is where Zimbardo experiments comes in. The Abu Ghraib experiment in real life were Americans soldiers who were the role of prison guards.
The American Soldiers was abusing prisoners in other detention sites in Iraq and Afghanistan by orders. Many of the prisoners was humiliated, tortured and malnourishment. – similar to Zimbardo’s experiment. The American soldiers were acting under the direct order of their superiors which is part of a to Secret Pentagon intelligence program by Secretary of Defense Donald
