Both novels Touching Spirit Bear, and The Devil’s Arithmetic are both very similar and also very different. In Touching Spirit Bear a boy struggles internally and externally with his anger and the actions that cause it. In The Devil’s Arithmetic, a young American girl is transported back in time to the holocaust and she struggles with the Nazi’s along with her losing her memory of her former life. While the problems of both protagonists are very similar they are also different.
An example of how they differ is that Cole & Chaya both have problems with their parents. Cole’s parents are Drunks and they Abuse him, especially his dad who beats him violently. Cole said on page 14 “ All my parents do is drink. They hate me. Do you know what it's
