These two stories are so very similar in the contexts, but different in the way it was told through religions and through different people's perspectives. I will point out a few ways on how these stories are different and why they are similar. There are several similarities between the stories of Utnapishtim’s Flood and Noah's Flood. Both stories take place in ancient mesopotamia. The most important symbol in these stories is the water, it represents destruction and rebirth. In Utnapishtim’s story there was several gods (Enlil, Ea, Ishtar, Enkido, shamash,Ennugi, Ninurta, and Anu), while Noah only had one god. Both men were told about the flood in different ways, Noah was told directly, while Utnapishtim was told in a dream. In his dream Utnapishtim was given a cover story, and Noah did not. The water from the flood in Noah’s story laid for 40 days and 40 nights, while Utnapishtim’s flood the water laid for 6 days 7 nights. Both men sent out birds to find land, Noah sent out a dove who brought back an olive branch which is a sign of peace, while Utnapishtim sent out the raven which is seen as a messengers of gods. After the boats had come to a complete stop and everyone was able to come out Istar (a god in utnapishtim’s flood) gathered the all the god except for Enlil (who was the creator of the flood), when Noah's boat came to a complete stop he gathered the gods by planting the first plant a vineyard, he drank the wine and became drunk.
