Didactic stories such as Aesop’s fables, Grimm brother’s fairy tales, Bible and Contemporary Story Genres can teach us moral lesson; however there are both pros and cons to using these didactic stories. For centuries parents have read Aesop’s fables to teach their children moral values and how to critically think. Some pros to telling didactic stories include Aesop’s story of “The Aunt and The Grasshopper”, which teaches children to prepare for lean times. The story of “The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” teaches children appearances can be deceiving. Some cons to telling didactic stories include Aesop’s story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, which teaches children that when you tell a lie about something people will think that you are not trustworthy.
