In the articles All Summer in a Day and Ponies, both authors use semi-real world situations to show how kids are being bullied and are overthrown by power, showing the overall theme of power and corruption to the people around you. In the story All Summer in a Day, a little girl is bullied by a guy in her class. He is mean to her and constantly tries to degrade her, but is unsuccessful until the sun comes out. The sun (which only comes out once every seven years) comes out and the little girl is locked in a closet, making her unable to see it. The little boy abuses the power he has over the little girl and takes away her joy. The story is about a little girl who gets her very first pony, but also wants to be friends with the popular girls.
