With the hopes of reestablishing his career he writes, directs, and stars in Broadway plays based off of Raymond Carver’s story; “What We Talk About When Talk About Love”. Another common theme is, a conflict between Hollywood and Broadway. In the movie there is a contrast between Riggan, whom represents Hollywood, and Mike Sinner, whom represents Broadway. The reason being os because Sinner is a known actor in the theater industry. The first clash between them was when Mike broke out of character during the first preview of a movie. The cause of Mike’s actions was because Riggan brought out water instead of gin. Another critical theme is when trying to become a true actor. This theme is shown in the movie by Mike as well. He is a dedicated actor well known to theater critics because of his acting skills. He states that on stage he is in true character meanwhile in real life he withholds an alter persona. This is also a contributing reason as to why he broke out of character in the first preview.
