Even though Emerson and Thoreau’s philosophies were created in the eighteen-hundred’s, their beliefs still live on today. The Transcendentalist writers worked to educate their pupils about the dangers inherent in living in the modern world, and while their beliefs are important, their teachings can radically undermine society.
Emerson’s essay on “Self-Reliance” explores his insistence that people are extremely valuable and that they should never squander his or her innate value.
