Even though Emerson and Thoreau’s philosophies were created in the eighteen-hundred’s, their beliefs still live on today. The Transcendentalist writers worked to educate their pupils about the dangers inherent in living in the modern world, and while their beliefs are important, their teachings can radically undermine society.
Emerson’s essay on “Self-Reliance” explores his insistence that people are extremely valuable and that they should never squander his or her innate value. Emerson believed that each person should his or her own person and not like another. He suggested that one should follow their heart, which shows his or her true path to inner success. According to Emerson, “Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak
