Reading poetry is not the same as understanding poetry. Poetry can very difficult to understand what is trying to be said or explained by the poet. Poems “Wild Nights Wild Nights” by Emily Dickenson and “Stile I Rise” by Maya Angelou both use style and sound to explore different themes. Through the style and sound I will explain the theme of these two poems.
Sound is the combination of multiple elements like rhyme, assonance, and alliteration to name a few. Our emotions are affected by sound so it is to be heard. Both poems have repetition throughout them. “Still I rise” repeating “you may” several times and “Wild Nights Wild Nights” repeating the words “wild nights.” The repeating of a word could be used to get the point across to someone
