This piece is commentary and representation of a universal theme of society’s strict and uniform expectations. In many books including Frankenstein and The Awakening we see an individual with a difference from society be it looks or thoughts that isolates them from the rest of society. In Frankenstein, the monster created is hideous and his appearance scares even his creator away, people cant see past his outer appearance and become afraid and run away in terror just from the sight of him. His only successful human contact was with a blind man which shows the prejudice of us human beings. If the monster would have looked normal he could have fit in easy, but since he wasn’t normal he was outcasted and forced to live in solitude. The Awakening
