First the lamb’s version of morality is called “the slave morality”. The slave morality is developed through the feeling of being oppressed by others. The lambs are powerless to stop the birds of prey and so the lambs decide that the birds are evil for they prey upon the weak. Therefore, the meek Lambs are the good in the society. This idea of having a ressentiment (i.e. the need to blame one’s problem on an external force) is essential to have a functional slave morality. Nietzsche says, “in order to exist, slave morality always needs first a hostile external world (37).” Nietzsche is saying that by turning the hatred of one’s situation onto another the result is the slave morality. Because of this the aforementioned person will pursue this ideal and look to accomplish it however is necessary even if they must use others to do it. The resulting thoughts are similar to the noble morality in that they say, “how did I go wrong.” This emphasis on their own fault will result in the noble morality where the problems that a person faces is often of their own design.
