First off, I have shown grit through perseverance, and this is one of the first steps to having and exercising grit. Specifically, when I make a bad move or blunder or even just losing to player I have beaten before, I get really frustrated because of how much I love playing chess. Thus, one time my friend Matthew had to remind me that it was just a game, because I made a few really bad moves in a row, and dropped the “F” bomb. Secondly, I have shown passion just by the fact that I have improved a lot. For Example, I used to play in bad chess tournaments with low rated players who were usually well below average, and I would lose those tournaments. Therefore, I used passion and grit to play more often and play better players and spend time studying chess openings, to the point where I am now, I usually win tournaments now, and when I lose I usually finish second or third, in tournaments with well above average rated chess players. (Average is usually about FIDE: 1200 rating, whereas mine is about 1520ish as of this morning). Thirdly, showing grit through passion even goes as far as not giving up. For example, just this weekend I was playing chess with Matt, and I gave him a free knight. Most people would have resigned in my position, but I decided not to, and I ended up winning with a very impressive “pawn storm”. Therefore, instead of giving up, I got more playing experience during the game and ended up causing him to be the one to resign. For all of these reasons, I clearly use passion
