Who deserves more praise? Thomas Edison or Nick Holonyak? Nick Holonyak created the LED light bulb and no one knows his name, but Thomas Edison discovered electricity, and everyone knows his. The instigators of change deserve to be honored more than those who built on top of the pioneer’s shoulders. Both Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping shaped China’s future for the better; However, Mao Zedong deserves to be more honored because he was able to incite a revolution in China and fundamentally change the way the country viewed politics and their social structure, where Deng Xiaoping was only able to build off of Mao Zedong’s historical advances.
Mao Zedong should be honored for setting the basis of what Xiaoping achieved because everything he did achieve was based off Mao’s work and would not have been possible without him. The Chinese Revolution, led by Mao Zedong, was groundbreaking and shaped the people’s republic of China that Deng led after Mao’s death. Although this stance seems extreme, at a time when the people had nothing under an oppressive government, violence is the only way out.
