I have grown to appreciate the difference in being a doctor of osteopathic medicine after having the privilege to work alongside a variety of both medical doctors and doctor of osteopathic medicine. Both MD’s and DO’s are able to treat patients; however, I consider DO’s to possess one quality that most MD’s are not able to provide – being able to treat the entire patient and not just the manifestations of the illness. After witnessing diverse patient interactions, it was evident that DO’s, especially PCOM graduates, stand out among other colleagues.
