In the article ¨In Pursuit of Unhappiness¨ Darrin M. McMahon talks about Thomas Carlyle´s and John Stuart Mill´s takes on the pursuit. Carlyle had a very negative tone to his writings. On the other hand Mill has a very nice and happier approach on the pursuit. Carlyle states “every pitifulest whipster that walks within a skin has had his head filled with the notion that he is, shall be, or by all human and divine laws ought to be, ‘happy.’” This quote explains that everyone is entitled to happiness. Mill says “don’t have a happy new year!” This explains that he wants people to feel however they want even though they are supposed to be happy. These two people make very good points, but both are very different with their approach on it.
