Perkins, Aftermath, and Sunday Morning

1. Reflecting on the Perkins article, why do you think representations of lynching within African American arts were still prevalent even after lynching began to decrease?
The representations of lynching is still present because it is a part of African American history. Just like every other history, if there comes every a moment of war, conflict, or problems, people want to remind others the hardships or trouble that another race or community dealt with. People will get uncomfortable when the topics arrive but that should not matter as it’s important to remind the world of some hard part of history. As it was evident in May 14, 1953 when Ms. Dunham presented in Santiago, Chile to expose the Southland to the world.

Comparing these two plays, the structure of the story and characters are very similar. Both plays begins in a household with two characters having a conversation about their daily lives. Then more characters enter through the household and tell some background information of the lynch. The play Aftermath involved John’s father being lynched while A sunday Morning in the South, Tom get lynched. Then the characters got upset of the situation and wonder what will happen. Both of the story conflict occurred due to discrimination from white folks and how the law enforcer show little concern of bringing fair peace. In fact, both stories demonstrated that law enforcements is an influence upon the story’s concern. Like how A sunday Morning in the South, the officers got a white woman to point out her victim while the sheriff ignored the John’s father death. This resulted in characters facing anguish due to how flaw the system
