Digger, who is an angry child, blames the DiAngelos for taking away the fun in his life, but he comes to realize that he has no right to be mad at a family who wasn’t trying to hurt him. At the very beginning of A Christmas Carol, Scrooge overworks his employee, and doesn’t care for Christmas cheer. He is visited by the ghost of Jacob Marley, who tells him that the spirits of christmas past, present, and yet to come, are going to show him how he needs to change his attitude. After he sees himself in the past, present, and dead in the future, he understands that changes need to be made by him, so people don’t see his death as a cause for celebration. He begins to change his demeanor, and he becomes a much nicer, happier person. Just like Digger, Scrooge changes from a selfish, surly individual to someone happy with their lives.
Both Scrooge and Digger change their attitudes drastically in their respective novels. All it takes is seeing the world from someone else’s perspective, and realizing how unpleasant they seem. People can change; they are just stuck in the molds they’ve made for
