Faith Kelly 5 June 2024 Unit 1 Comparison The exploitation of narrative forms in both written and visual form will allow us to uncover the true purpose of each work and its ideas of nature. Through the illustration of the sky woman falling and the Benin Plaques, the creators show a strong connection to nature. Though one is a written story and the other sculpted, they are each able to portray the same meaning. Each work tells a story and highlights the profound relationship between humanity and the natural world. When examining the works, we discern the unity of all living things, including the relevance of nature and especially the cultural significance. Once to the water, a turtle offered his back to hold the girl up. The other creatures realized this woman would need land if she were to survive and build a home. Each animal tried to dive down into the depths of the water in order to grab the clay below. With every dive hope began to fade. Nobody could safely reach the bottom of the lake and retrieve the sought-after clay. Once everyone had lost hope, the small muskrat decided he wanted to try. Even though he was the weakest diver of them all. They waited for him to return, but after a few minutes there was still nothing. Only a little while later, there was a small steam bubble heading to the surface. The muskrat had died, but not without his bringing a handful of the clay. This story is now celebrated every day in the author community. Their tribe likes to connect back to mother earth often and uphold the most respect for nature and how it contributed to their lives.
