“No love is greater than that of a father for his son”- Dan Brown. Starship Troopers and Return of the Jedi are two popular Science Fiction stories. In Starship Troopers the protagonist of the story, Johnny Rico, enlisted in the military, in spite of his father's wishes and plans for him. In Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader, Father of Luke Skywalker, wants Luke to join the dark side. In both these stories, the fathers are written out to be a sort of antagonist. Both of these fathers in either story did not love their sons as they should have. However, both characters do have drastic turning points in their stories and change and become a hero in the end.
Neither Darth Vader or Mr. Rico respected or loved or showed that they loved their sons at the beginning of the story. Johnny Rico’s Father was impersonal towards Johnny during his childhood and had high expectations for Johnny. He pushed him into many situations and decisions. He did not show Johnny that he actually cared for his wellbeing over the family’s reputation. …show more content…
When Vader met Luke, he tried to convince him to join the Darkside once he saw that Luke was powerful. Later on, Vader tried to kill Luke, multiple times, because Luke did not wish to join the enemies. As a result, in both of these father’s acts of neglecting their sons of love, they almost lost their sons
