The book, the Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a story about a man named Jean-Dominique Bauby who suffered a life changing stroke one day while he was playing with his kids. The stroke damaged a part of Jean’s brain that left him almost completely paralyzed. The only movement Jean has in his body now is slightly being able to turn his head and being able to blink his left eye. The way he communicates is by blinking a certain number of times to represent the letter of the alphabet he desires. This book is Jean reflecting on his life before the stroke, the stroke itself, and how the stroke has changed his life. This description of his experiences were taken over a two month period between July and August of 1996.
