Change. Everyone who doesn’t like change, put up your hand. Don’t worry, nor do I. Adapting to change is not everyone’s forte, but when your whole lifetime beliefs have been almost all a lie, it really is something to write home about. Yes, I am talking about the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution. They both changed how we interpreted and made use of physical and mental objects. We thought differently, and logical thought dominated, bringing the evolution of Science (pun intended). But this optimism was not for everyone in those days. Some people rose up against the movement. They believed science and rationality would advance to the point where we could never hope to truly understand the world and the human personality. It was this development, that spawned a literary backlash that is known as Romanticism, where nature, imagination, emotion and freedom are certainly key to its expansion. …show more content…
The ideas the Enlightenment forged, triggered those who opposed it to take action, leading to the establishment of Romanticism. The Enlightenment thinkers were all in favour of progress and reason, with less thought on individuals, and more universally.
