“The Great Depression” by Mike Kubic and “Marigolds” by Eugenia Collier dive into the complexities of identities and cultural perspectives. The Great Depression explores the harsh conditions, the living standards, and the trauma expressed throughout the United States. “As factories closed their doors, one in four Americans lost their jobs. With no bank loans to tie the over, “farmers left their crops in the field- while in towns, people starved.” (Kubic 2). These struggles reflect the hunger of the world and how bad it has become for the United States. Similarly, Marigolds expresses the experience through the eyes of Elizabeth, a girl who and her family are struggling through the great depression. Lizabeth reflects, “and suddenly he sobbed,
