New England and Puritans The Legacy of Puritans is rooted deep in American history, if not for the puritans we would not have capitalism, the current education system, Harvard university as well as many cities in New England. They founded what is today the states of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Leaving England to seek religious freedom and to show the rest of the world how a correct a society should be.
The thing that stands out to me most about the Puritans was there hypocrisie, they came to America seeking religious freedom but, would condemn anyone who did not share their views. Not only did they mistreat other religions but, they harassed their own people for having a different view or making a claim they didn’t think was correct. They exiled Roger Williams for wanting to stop mistreating others and exiled Anne Hutchinson for speaking her mind, that doesn’t sound like a “Modell of Christian Charity” to me. They would push people around for not believing their views and then would play victim when someone would do the same to them.

Harvard University is in the top tier schools in the world, which was founded by puritans. They differed from England and other colonies by making school mandatory, schools would have teachers and children were required to attend school. They believed that the Devil tries to keep man uneducated, so he will be unable to read scriptures. The other reason was for the children to understand the laws of the country. And passed a law requiring towns to hire a schoolteacher to teach
