In the stories “The Talking Skull” by Donna L. Washington & “The Reader” by ReadWorksTM, both authors talk about the power of words. “The Talking Skull” is about a man who goes back to his village from the ocean and stumbles upon a talking skull. Once he realizes it can speak, he goes to his town immediately to tell everyone about it. However, due to his reputation for lying, nobody believes him. Once he gets everybody’s attention, he says “I was on my way home from the ocean when I came across a pile of bones. On top of the heap was this skull. It spoke to me, too!
