The Greek philosopher Aristotle wrote a theory of what it takes to be classified as a Tragic Hero. A Tragic hero consists of 4 different characteristics These 4 characteristics are hamartia, peripeteia, anagnorisis, and hubris . The two plays A Doll’s House and Antigone both show characters that show the 4 characteristics of a Tragic hero. Creon king of Thebes and Nora who is living a wonderful life. Through the plays both these characters change drastically from what they started as.

To have hamartia is having a flaw or error to the character. Creon the mighty king of Thebes ruled with hatred,choosing not to listen to good advice when given. By disobeying his beloved soothsayer by not letting his niece bury her brother, he plagues Thebes with a curse from the gods. By doing this the whole city begins to fall apart and his life is now spiraling out of control. The good little song bird Nora shows stubbornness by going against her husband’s back for an I.O.U.. At first she finds it exhilarating rush, being a woman in a man’s world makes her feel in power. Shortly after she finds what the ramification of these actions showing her lack of experience when the loaner comes after her and threatens to expose her.

Creon defiantly demonstrates this most of the play. He ignores almost all the advice from people who are trying to save him. The soothsayer speaks to him “not to execute Antigone or EVERYONE will die”. This is a key detail Creon ignores leading to his eventual downfall. Unlike Creon Nora doesn’t show excessive pride however she does have pride. By going against her husband's back for money that is illegal. Also thinking that she is more clever than her husband by borrowing the money “without his knowledge”. By borrowing the money leads her to her realization of her wrong
