I read two versions of the Cinderella story in Disney Cinderella by Brittany Candau (author) and Cory Godbey (illustrator) and the story “Cinder Elephant” in A Wolf at the Door and Other Retold Fairy Tales by Ellen Datlow and Terri Winding (editors). The former told the traditional story of Cinderella in which Ella persevered the trials caused by her stepfamily, and she was chosen by the prince for her correct shoe size. In contrast, the latter is a more modern version that opposes the traditional characteristics of Cinderella.
