Final Essay In every or movie a hero must go on a journey to succeed in something. The Adventures of Ulysses is a short book about a warrior who upsets a god and must voyage and fight his way home to his wife and son. Star Wars IV: A New Hope is a movie where two droids escape an attack from Darth Vader and wind up with Luke Skywalker. While Luke is cleaning R2D2 a message from Princess Leia pops up and Luke, R2D2, C3PO, Hans Solo, and Chewbacca must go and save the princess. The Adventures of Ulysses and Star Wars IV: A New Hope have similar and different archetypes and hero’s journey stages. Both The Adventures of Ulysses and Star Wars IV: A New Hope portray a version of The Mundane World stage within the hero’s journey. In both the book and the movie the hero’s want to accomplish something. In The Adventures of Ulysses this can be seen when Ulysses says “I had better go home and help him” (111). In Star Wars IV: A New Hope it is similar because Luke wants to prove to his uncle he is worthy of leaving. They both want to help themselves and others. Luke is more on the side of helping others. In both the book and the movie the hero gains some sort of knowledge. In the book Ulysses says “Thank you great Ajax, I will remember what you have told me,” (78). While in the movie Luke is trained to shoot the gun ship. Both of them use this knowledge to good use. They also learn very valuable information. Ulysses gains knowledge while Luke gains “power” knowledge. “And you were right, a thousand times right!” said Ulysses, (39). Obi Wan teaches Luke the force.
