Zusak’s The Book Thief and Graber’s “Interview with Manfred Graber”’s message on fear is an individual that experiences a terrifying event will always remember the smallest details. In The Book Thief, while Germany was getting bombed, families would use radio’s to hear the sirens. When the alarms would go off it would give a sense that “the radio was was already half broken, or it was swallowed immediately by the crying sound of sirens” (Zusak 374). In the war time, sirens meant that bombs were coming to that location. The sirens on the radio gave an intense feeling that the bombs and the sirens were taking over Germany. It showed fear because it meant anyone could die from these attacks or not make it during hiding. The author’s message
