The Devil’s Arithmetic was not about the devil, but about the horror that many faced, and that many died from. Hannah, the main character, is Jewish, and yet she doesn't know of the struggle her religion went through in the 20th century. In the book, Hannah learns all about her family’s past and what happened to the lot of Jews. The book also has a movie made off of it.
