Through all of time God has always provided and cared for His people, the Israelites. In return for his love and care the only thing that He has ever asked of us is our love, and He even tells us how to do it. All throughout the Bible there are examples of people showing their love of God, and they are doing it through obedience. In Deuteronomy (1), the Lord promised the Israelites that if they would love Him by honoring and obeying Him, He would “He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and olive oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you. You will be blessed more than any other people…” In the story of Hagar and Ishmael God lets Hagar know that for her obedience in returning to Sarai He will bless her and her son (2).
