Legally MoveOn.org encloses two different organizations. The first organization is a MoveOn.org civil action which is a 504(C) (4) non-profit organization. MoveOn.org civil action advocates and organizes, defends and promotes several national issues concerning social welfare, education, Iraq war, women rights, etc. The second organization is MoveOn.org political action that is structured under the federal election laws. It’s a political action committee that collects political donations from members and contributes in political campaigns. We should note that in principle MoveOn.org civil action is a non-partisan organization the goal is to promote the lives and the welfare of all citizens. Due to its unique model, most of MoveOn.org action are initiated through public petitions, elements such as the movements goals, activists and conscience constituents, that are usually associated with any social movement (labor, civil right, gay right, etc.) can be illusive to recognize in the case of moveon.org.
