Animals are intelligent and are capable of true compassion and consciousness. In the past few years, scientists have done studies that show certain animals having human-like characteristics. Some of those animals include primates, dogs, elephants , and pandas. Also. chimpanzees have been categorized as some of the closest animals to humans. The first animal that will be mentioned in this paper is a Bonobo, a type of primate. On page 86 of the textbook, it tell a report of a bonobo and a small injured bird. According to the report, a bonobo in an inclosure carried an injured bird outside and tried to get it to fly. The bonobo was very persistent on trying to get the bird to fly, taking it higher and higher up each time in failed. Finally the bonobo just carried it back to the ground and watched over it until it could fly again. A chimpanzee was observed by renowned primatologist, Jane Goodall. it was seen striping the leaves off a long stem, then sticking it into an ant hill and pulling out ants with it. The chimpanzee had made a tool to get food that could not be reached without it. Examples like this however, have had a great amount of controversy in them because some scientists believe that the chimps only do this because it means food, that it is not an act of intelligence or an act of consciousness that it is just surviving.
