In the United States sports starting from high school to professional sports are huge. Money is constantly being made off of athletes. The NCAA makes billions of dollars while the athletes devote hours of their time to their sport and don’t see a dime for it. There is television revenue, ticket and jersey sales, likeness promotions and other sources of income go to the NCAA, the schools, the coaches, event staff, pretty much everyone except the athletes who are creating all the revenue. According to ESPN the NCAA men’s basketball tournament generated 1.15 billion dollars in TV ads. Which was far more than the NFL and NBA playoffs generated. The athlete ultimately has the choice to decide whether he/she wants to keep competing for free education and enjoying the sport they love or give it up since they don’t generate any income. I don’t think redshirting is an ethical issue, if someone gets injured you should be able to have that year of eligibility saved. I don’t think it would be right to end somebody’s career from an injury. I believe redshirting is very beneficial for the development of a player. It also helps to get them ahead of their school work. If somebody were to put me in charge of overseeing the business of college sports I wouldn’t change a thing. If someone hasn't gotten all the requirements needed to be eligible then they do not deserve to play. Lots of programs get away with bending the rules to gain a person's eligibility but if they are caught then there are severe consequences. It really isn't worth it in my opinion. If an athlete is getting recruited in clandestine tactics then it is ultimately his/her choice in whether they want to choose that school and be apart of what they are doing. It's common sense to know that the athlete will get in a lot of trouble if caught as well as the program. Athletes should choose a school that follows and honors the rules of recruitment. Universality means that its a tactic used by everyone. Gamesmanship is a way of winning games using ploys and tactics but still remaining within the rules. A couple examples of this would be in baseball a coach will try and waste as much time as possible when pulling one of his pitchers in order to give his other pitcher more time to warm up. Also in football a coach will call time out right before the kicker is about to kick the ball to kill his
