Comtessa de Dia was a composer during the Medieval Period who was born in c. 1140 and died around c. 1175. Her birth name is believed to be Beatriz de Dia, but she is remembered as Comtessa de Dia in contemporary documents. She was a trobairitz who wrote about courtly love, optimism, self-praise, and betrayal. She only has 5 extant pieces, including 4 cansos and 1 tenson. She’s best known for her piece, “A Chantar,” which was composed in the 12th century. It has a duration time of 6:21 and has two genres: vocal music and classical. This piece is important because it’s the only canso with complete music written by a trobairitz that has survived the Middle Ages. It’s also interesting because in each strophe, she reiterates the same rhyme
