In recent years concealed carry of firearms has become common in the United States, with over 16 million citizens with active concealed carry permits, in 48 states and Washington, D.C. (qtd. In Gunstocarry.com). Concealed carry is an effective way to protect themselves and their family when law enforcement is not readily available. There are between one and two million defensive gun uses per year, not involving homicide. Given my research, plus ten years of experience with firearms instruction, in my duties as a United States Army Infantry Non-Commissioned Officer and civilian firearms instructor, I will provide evidence as to why the Ruger LC9, Springfield Armory XD-s, Smith and Wesson Shield, Glock 43 and Sig Sauer P365 are the "Top Five" concealed carry handguns available.

Handguns are available in many shapes, sizes, and calibers they exhibit strengths and weaknesses. The criteria I will consider is concealability, ease of use, and cost.
