One, of my concepts that I will be writing about is phobia. Phobia is defined as having an extreme or irrational fear of something. There are mild irrational fears that don’t really interfere with a person’s ability to function, which is really common. There are many people who are afraid of certain animals, things, and fear certain places as well. Many people have to cope with phobia and the way they get overwhelmed and with anxiety. The way most people would be okay with their fears is if it didn’t interfere with their daily activities. If people wouldn’t allow it to affect anything in their lives then they wouldn’t be diagnosed with a psychological disorder.
For example, my phobia is that I’m terrified of clowns, I fear them so much that when I was in middle school, I seen a clown at the fair and panicked and started screaming. I’m not sure why but before I attended this class I thought my fear was genetic because, my mother has a fear of clowns as well. Exactly why I try to stay away from clowns as much as possible. If I see one I feel like my whole life flashed before my eyes and I can’t control it it’s just something that happens without no control. The way I would teach someone about Phobia is by asking them to what they fear. Then I would talk to them about that fear and what makes them scarred the most about. Then I would slowly bring them around the fear and try to comfort them as well as letting them get comfy about the fear. I would do this until they finally overcame that certain phobia. The other thing we can do is find the best way to cope with are fears. It can sometimes ruin someone’s life because, they get so irritated and annoyed that they just lose control and, let their fear take over.
Second concept I have chosen is memory, the definition of memory is the mental processes that enables you to retain and retrieve information over time. Memory involves three fundamental processes which are encoding, storage, and retrieval. We also have long term memory and, short term memory. Long-term memory is the third memory stage it also holds memories that you’re going to remember all through your lifetime. Short-term memory is the information that a person is currently thinking about or is aware of, it is also called primary or active memory. Recent events and sensory data such as sounds are stored in short-term memory. Short-term memory often encompasses events over a period of anywhere from 30 seconds to several days. I’m not that good at remembering that much stuff, only, the things that I’m really interested in or that are important. To be honest, I never really cared to learn how memory really works until I actually started wondering how our memory actually works. Which is so awesome how it remembers stuff for a long time or for a short time either way we still remember things one way or another. The way I would explain memory is by saying that memory is just something that helps you keep track of things like events, people, and everything else. It stores information that you didn’t even know that you remembered or even thought you knew. Memory is the most important thing because without it we wouldn’t be able to remember anything in our lives or who we are. We would all be running around like a chicken with no head. Our memory stores every single moment of our life. Therefore, memory plays a big important role in our minds, we would not be able to function every day without memory.
Finally, my last concept is about sleep paralysis, its definition is a temporary condition in which a person is unavailable to move upon awaken in the morning or at night. Sleep paralysis only lasts about 10 minutes. When this occurs the only thing you will be able to do is stay calm and wait till it passes. Once it passes be calm and continue what you were
