To start, in Confetti Girl, the narrator’s point of view differs from her father’s. Lina misunderstands her father’s actions and takes offence to it. For instance, in her mind, her father doesn’t care for her as much as his books and education, and therefore, she has trouble connecting with him. In the text it states, “He leaves the table to scan the bookshelves... othing is more important than his books and vocabulary. He might say I matter, but when he goes on a scavenger hunt for a book, I realize that I really don’t” (Lopez, paragraph 26). It’s perfectly normal but know they honestly are trying to benefit you, even if you don’t realize how. It is a common problem that children are incapable of communication with their parents, these novels adhere to this. In Confetti Girl, the narrator, Lina cannot connect with her only parent because of his constant neglect to her interests and desires. She misunderstands his actions and believes that he doesn’t care for her as much as his books. In Tortilla Sun, a girl and her mother have a conflict when Izzy doesn’t see her mother leaving for her job as an opportunity, and therefore has trouble connecting with her remaining parent. When your parents are forcing you to do something that you don’t want to do remember, they are really trying to help you, even if the effects are not
