Congenital Analgesia is a very rare disease where the person affected cannot feel pain. There are many different names that this disease is given, such is Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP), Asymbolia for Pain, Congenital Indifference to Pain, and Pain Insensitivity. This disease was “first described in 1932 by Dearborn as “Congenital pure analgesia” (2010 B Sezgin Bolgul, N Hamamci pg.1). People with this disease for instance know that they are being pocked by a needle, but they cannot tell that the needle is causing them pain. With this being said, this disease is usually discovered when they are an infant because they will not cry when they have something wrong with them. It is a disorder in which you are unable to feel pain, and it is all caused from a mutation in the gene SCN9A. The only way you are to get this disorder is if both of your parents give of the mutated gene, which makes this an autosomal recessive disease. There is no treatment for this disease by the means of medicine or changing it, all they can do is be careful. Lastly is does an abundance of negative things to your body. Once you injure yourself you are unaware about it and you can make an injury worse. For example you sprain you ankle and keep walking on it and it leads to it being broken. You still continue to walk on it and this bone that used to be sprain is permanently damaged. Or you get a cut and you’re unaware of it so you do not clean it well. It then ends up getting infected and continues to be systemic. If this continues to go on then they can die. Also having this disease can also affect your physical appearance.
