Frequently heard arguments against the indoctrination of a school prayer is that prayer is already legal. In the article “Pros and Cons of Prayer in School”, written by All About History, it is stated that “Students are already allowed to pray on a voluntary basis (in a non-disruptive way) so formal school prayer is unnecessary.” What the author is trying to say is that school prayer basically takes away the jobs of parents and religious institutions, whose desire is to provide instruction to their believers in keeping with their own beliefs. (All About History). Another argument about a voluntary prayer is that it contradicts the First Amendment. In the article written by the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), the authors state that “The radical school prayer amendment would negate the First Amendment...Most distressing...would be at the expense of the civil rights of children...vulnerable class...attack...the Bill of Rights, which safeguards the rights of the individual from the tyranny …show more content…
In other words, education and religion are often seen to be incompatible. If religion or prayer were implemented back in school while the teaching of evolution or other sciences continue, a problem would arise between the teachers and the students who believe creationism. In the novel Faith or Fact, the Jerry A. Coyne states “...our universe shows evidence of design in that the physical laws and constants that govern it precisely match what is required for life.” In other words, Jerry is stating that there is a scientific reason as to how the world came to be, but that reason will only upset those who believe that the world was created by a man named “God”.
