CONSULTING REPORT
TO: Beaufort County Hospital
FROM: Latoya James Hosptial’s Consulting Inc.
RE: IT and Staffing Issues DATE: February 15-16, 2015
Reason for Consult
We were called in to look at a variety of problems within the hospital, the most critical being the costs, staff, and IT problems. Other problems analyzed during this visit were patient satisfaction, error reduction, and communication issues within the organization.
Some time was also spent on forecasting staffing needs for the next five to ten years.

Reason for Consult
There are any issues within the healthcare sector, specifically within hospitals at that present time. Hospitals are places for the sick to seek help in order to get well. However, unfortunately many hospitals are beginning to lose its abilities to provide adequate care and to keep up with the demands of the business due to budgetary issues, inadequate staff, outdated equipment, and its Information Technology systems (IT). I have been asked to lead a consultant team to help Beaufort County Hospital better understand why there is such a high turnover in staff, as well as issues within the IT department. There are several things that must be looked at and changed in order for this hospital to better care for its patients and to ensure that staff are more than adequately trained to handle the ever demanding positions they are in. Using information management is the way that this project will be done. Information management is the planning, budgeting, control and exploitation of the information resources in an organization. The term encompasses both the information itself and the related aspects such as personnel, finance, marketing, organization and technologies and systems.

Consultant Team
I have assembled a team of three consultants to assist with these matters at hand. Mr. Kim Strong is an independent healthcare consultant with expertise in hospital administration and operations, supply chain, project management, equipment specification, and information technology. He has his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Jacksonville University. He has over 30 years of experience in both for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare sectors including standalone and system hospitals ranging from two hundred beds to over a thousand beds. Dr. Elsie Fargis is a psychiatrist with over 30 years of experience in both hospital-based psychiatry and private practice. She is a former graduate of Calicut University’s medical school in Kerala, India, who completed her residency program at Queens University Hospital in Ontario, Canada. She is board certified in General Psychiatry in Canada and General and Geriatric Psychiatry in the US. Mr. Jacoby Valdez is a board registered clinician in Respiratory Therapy and a board certified specialist in pediatric and perinatal pulmonology. He has over 30 years of experience as a caregiver and as an administrator specializing in operations and physician relations. Mr. Valdez’s clinical expertise in pulmonology includes diagnostics and treatment in acute and long term care environments. He is also well versed in diagnostic cardiology practices. Each consultant has experience in different areas but as a collective team they have years of experience that will be vital to the overall success of this consultation.

Statement of the Problem
As my team and I begin to discuss with hospital administrators, staff, personnel, and even a few patients and concerns they had with the current state of Beaufort County Hospital, the overall theme was issues of cost, care quality, patient satisfaction, error reduction, and communications. As consultants we come in with fresh eyes and ears to assist with coming up with a plan that will assist in the overall correction of all said concerns. As Dr. Strong delved into the issues of cost and care quality, he knows that
