The Soviet Union was pushing communism to spread across the world as the United States was playing a game of risk with Stalin by doing all they could to contain communism. Stalin was looking to expand communism as the United State’s main goal was to stop the spread of this mess, or to contain it. So, what is containment? It’s the United State’s effort to keep the condition the world was in after World War ll the same or consistent. Containment started when Stalin imposed a blockade on West Berlin, not allowing any goods to be shipped into the area in 1948. “America and its allies decided to support West Berliners by air, flying in supplies for the over two million people for nearly a year. Harry Truman demonstrated containment by sending good to the people struggling in west berlin, by helping south korea defend their democratic nation and to stop communism from spreading, and by solving the cuban missile crisis in a calm, non-violent way. Although some may say that Harry Truman’s goal wasn’t to use containment method all the time, but to create more democratic land, he did end the war on a somewhat peaceful note and didn’t allow communism to spread.
