We learn how to behave from those around us while we grow up. Adolescence tend to learn to act like the role they are given usually associated with their sex. Society's concept of how men and women are expected to act and behave are called gender roles. Society sets gender roles based on norms for each gender. Feminine roles are usually characterized as secondary and nurturing while masculine roles have been associated with strength and power in American culture.
