Cool Pumpkin Carvings
Crisp leaves fall from the trees and a chilly nip in the air heralds the end of summer. Fall is coming with its festivals; crisp apples, and, of course, Halloween. The best trick for a €spooktacular€ carved pumpkin is finding the perfect, bloodcurdling stencil. Once the pumpkin is scooped out; tape the stencil onto the pumpkin's orangey flesh. The stencil should be creased and molded to follow the round contours of the pumpkin. Then, with a pushpin or a nail, punch holes along the lines of your stencil.
Your pumpkin is prepared for the next phase: carving. Use a €tool of the trade€; either a thin, serrated blade, or you can buy a specialty tool, in stores or online, for carving pumpkins. Start with the smallest areas first, sawing back and forth along the punched holes, until you carve through the flesh of the pumpkin. When the area you are working on is completed, poke out that section before moving onto larger sections of the design. To render the best, spooky, lighting cut perpendicular to the pumpkin surface.
