What Are the Benefits of a Copper Roof?
For hundreds of years, metal roofing has been used to provide shelter, and beauty, as ornate material on buildings. Copper was used as roofing material for temples before Christ was born. It was also used on medieval structures and 14th century castles. Although aesthetically pleasing, copper roofs have several benefits for homeowners. Cooper roofs are energy and cost efficient, durable, environmental friendly, lightweight, and it is low maintenance.
Aesthetics
Copper has a rich appealing appearance, and unlike most metals, copper’s elegant appearance continues as it ages or patinas, during its natural oxidation process, which creates a protective coating to inhibit corrosion.

Copper roofs are very durable and can last over 100 years. It is not flammable and can withstand the roughest winters, including hail and heavy snow. Since critters are not attracted to it, homeowners do not have to worry about animals harboring in the attic. Unlike some other roofing material, copper roofs will not crack, rot, or split.
Environmentally Friendly
Copper is a natural metal and 75% of copper roofing is copper. As a roofing material, it will last a long time; however, if it is replaced for whatever reason, the material is completely recyclable.
Lightweight
Copper material is lighter than most roofing material, allowing it to be transported and moved without difficulty. The other structural supports of the home is not compromised since copper is a lighter material.
Low Maintenance
If you want your roof to maintain its original golden glow, you can clean it with just a few natural items found in your cabinet or you can use a professional copper cleaning product.
