Compare and Contrast Coqui More and more Animal species in this day and age are becoming endangered and extinct, this can vary from habitat destruction, hunters and poachers, and climate change. This is becoming a big problem not only here in America but all over the world. Here in America our national symbol the Bald Eagle was on the brink of extinction back in the 1940’s says the U.S Fish and Wildlife Services. Thankfully now it has been removed from the endangered list as of August 9, 2007. But the problem not only lies with us, in Puerto Rico the beloved Coqui is currently still on the endangered species list. The animal is a brown, yellow, or green in color and is a very cute. The Coqui has sadly been one of the animals that have fallen on the endangered species list. This is due to deforestation; people have destroyed their habitat, their eggs, and even destroying their source of food and nourishment. Travelers have even tried taking the Coqui back to America with them but eventually the Coqui dies because its said that the Coqui loves Puerto Rico so much that it cant bare being away form it. The Coqui gained much popularity from myths and songs about the Coqui spreading it. They even have restaurants named after the loved animal. One very special thing about the Coqui that contributed to its fame is the sound it makes, the Coqui’s sound is its actual name kind of like Pokémon. The people of America care a lot of their proud symbol and the people of Puerto Rico are proud of their rare frog. They both also share differences like the Coqui is still on the endangered list and the Bald Eagle was thankfully saved and taken off the list. The Bald Eagle is also a National symbol and the Coqui is not but the Coqui is still widely known and praised. The Coqui is also more implemented into the culture of the Puerto Ricans with having songs and even restaurants named after their beloved frog.
