The scene I have chosen to talk about is a fairly long one, however it is a scene that is depicted differently in the movie compared to the book. In the book this scene lasts for three chapters, while the movie can some it all up in ten minutes at most. I have chosen the scene in which Coraline issues a challenge for the other mother and it’s a game. The game of finding the lost and stolen souls of the other three victims and to find Coraline’s real parents. If Coraline loses she will have to stay in the other world forever, become the other mother's daughter, and allow buttons to be sown into her eyes. If Coraline wins, the other mother must let her parents and the three ghost children go. Before the start of the game, Coraline demands that the other mother swears to play fairly. This was not true by any means; the other mother wants Coraline for herself and will try everything in her power to inhibit her triumphs.

Inside there are tons of rats scurrying about and whispering their creepy little song. As a voice starts to whisper to Coraline, trying to convince her to stay in this world. If she goes home she will be bored and ignored; here she can have, and do, whatever she wants. Coraline wants to go home and not live in this crazy world ran by the other mother. While the old man starts to fall apart the rats’ scurry around. The largest black rat is holding a marble in his paws: it is the last child’s soul. She chases after the rat, but falls to the ground, scraping her knee, and feeling like a failure. A cough sounds through the air. The black cat has killed the rat and retrieved the marble for Coraline. Unfortunately, the last child confronts Coraline and informs her the other mother doesn't plan to ever let her go. Armed with the tree souls and the cat, she is ready to search for her parents; even if, it is the last thing she
