Coronary Artery Disease or CAD for short is known for many other names as well like: coronary heart disease (CHD), heart disease, atherosclerosis, and ischemic heart disease. CAD is the most common type of heart disease. According to Brigham Health, “CAD is the leading cause of death in the U.S. in both men and women.” In addition, The American Heart Association estimates that one in three American adults has one or more types of coronary artery disease.
First, let’s start by describing what is coronary artery disease. Coronary artery disease, is an accumulation of fatty deposits in the arteries because of too much glucose in the blood. The deposits cause the arteries to become narrow, reducing the amount of blood that can flow through them.
