Placement Scores are determined by a thorough review of an inmates case factors to include: age, crime committed and if violence was used, prior incarcerations, gang involvement, etc.After a prisoners case is reviewed by the Classification Staff Representative (CSR) The prisoner must be approve "endorsement" to the institution.An inmate is in privilege group U until he/she has completed the reception and classification process. During this process; there are no family visits; one half of the maximum monthly canteen draw as authorized by the secretary; telephone calls on an emergency basis only, as determined by institution/facility staff and no personal packages(CDCR) Once the inmate has made it through the receprion and classification process the inmate will be endorse and transferred to the housing unit. So I started level 3 because violent charged I had. Dvi was our reception area we were on lockdown 24 hours got out to shower every other day. So that will drive you at it crazy if you asked me they could have segregated the races yard time instead of locking us all down but that's tgere way if punishment you lose all privileges. So after that I went to main line. It's a little better there. You have some extra privilege like being out all day I also dropped from level 3 to level 2. You have privileges like buying food ice cream and other small things from the yard. If you have family on the outside they can send package from catalogs you are given other foods tv radio better shoes and clothes but in the end the prison can take all that from you for whatever reason they want. Getting out all seemed a little unreal they ask you if you have anywhere to go if not usually a halfway house if you don't because parole needs a physical address to find you. But if they can add alot more vocational training so we can all learn new trades and actually have some skills to put to real life on the outside I think that would help the most at least for the ones that really want to
