A couple situations in which this is vividly shown is after a date with Lenina and while having a conversation with the controller. In both situations, his is absolutely dumbfounded by the way this “Brave New World” functions. Lenina begins to force herself upon him which horrifies him, and in the talk with the controller, John becomes completely hopeless when he is told that “you can have girls without hoeing for them, and there are not any flies or mosquitoes to sting you.” This adds to the idea of creating a perfect society. What John knows from his experiences is that, if you wish to attain something, you must work for it. The major flaw he learns about the people is that since everything is given to them so easily, in order to sustain their so-called happiness, the people do not know what true happiness really is since they had not worked for anything their entire lives.
