In the book, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the reader dives into an alternate world; designed to constantly fulfill everyone’s needs. The novel takes place in the year 2540, after a supposed nine-year war. After much trial and error, they came to develop a system of technology and a society that eradicates the need for sexual reproduction. Throughout the course of events, the audience gradually begins to take notice to the many conflicts that reoccur between this “new” world, and the daring protagonists that attempt to reinforce their own beliefs and ideas. This corruption of society becomes more apparent with Bernard’s display of individuality and John’s conflicting perspective.

A couple situations in which this is vividly shown is after a date with Lenina and while having a conversation with the controller. In both situations, his is absolutely dumbfounded by the way this “Brave New World” functions. Lenina begins to force herself upon him which horrifies him, and in the talk with the controller, John becomes completely hopeless when he is told that “you can have girls without hoeing for them, and there are not any flies or mosquitoes to sting you.” This adds to the idea of creating a perfect society. What John knows from his experiences is that, if you wish to attain something, you must work for it. The major flaw he learns about the people is that since everything is given to them so easily, in order to sustain their so-called happiness, the people do not know what true happiness really is since they had not worked for anything their entire lives.
