From the outside parties and interactions look fun and beautiful but as Nick involved himself in the rich parties he saw the smoke, drunkenness, adultery, and scandals. He viewed into the human secrecy that is kept for a good reputation to become present. He witnessed the fight and tension within Daisy and Tom’s marriage. Nick also experiences the secrets, promiscuous behavior and fighting at Tom and his mistress Myrtle’s apartment. He then notices the abundant wealth, carelessness, and disrespect while observing the rich attendants at Gatsby’s parties. Nick is both excited and repelled by this variety of life due to the curiosity within it. The evil and good brings drama into Nick’s normally peaceful life. When he views this prestige and allurement class from the outside he is drawn in. He is drawn in to them when he looks experiences it through a medium but not when he experiences it in first hand. Chapter 1 and 2 of this novel explains the polarizing effects of the rich during the twenties. This variety brings excitement but also confusion and all other responses in-between. The two sides of the rich create feelings of disgust, and on the other hand bring feelings on enchantment.
